Underwater Safari Hunt

PLEASE NOTE:  THERE ARE NEW RULES FOR 2027!

The Underwater Safari Hunt is an annual Extreme Sports Scuba event designed to challenge your underwater skills, teamwork, and ability to navigate while having some fun.

Divers will compete in teams of two to search for 10 hidden animals at Indian Creek Dive Park. You must have a dive buddy to participate. If you have a buddy, you can register together as a team. If you do not have someone to dive with, let us know, and we will pair you with another participating diver who also needs a teammate.

Each hidden animal contains a colored marker stitched inside. When your team finds an animal, you will open it to reveal your color. That color determines the prize your team wins.

For example, if your team finds the red marker, you become Team Red and receive the prize assigned to Red. Each member of the team receives the designated prize.

There are only 10 animals, so only the first 10 teams to find an animal will receive a prize.

Group Photo: All participating divers must be in the water by 12:50 PM

We will also be holding a fundraiser raffle, with all proceeds going to Newton & McDonald County Christmas for Kids, a local nonprofit helping children in need during the holiday season.

Participation and Safety Rules (NEW)

  1. All divers must show proof of current scuba certification and sign an Extreme Sports Scuba liability waiver before participating. Junior divers must have a parent or legal guardian sign the required waiver.

  2. All participants must be in the water by 12:50 PM for the group photo.

  3. All team members must be in the water and ready to dive at 1:00 PM. If you or your buddy are not ready to dive at 1:00 PM, your team will not be permitted to participate. This ensures every team has the same 45-minute hunt window.

  4. The maximum dive time is 45 minutes or until either diver reaches 700 PSI, whichever comes first. Exceeding either limit will result in disqualification. If you hear the designated underwater honking signal, the hunt is over.

  5. Surface and land-based safety divers will be present during the event. When surfacing, give the safety team an OK signal so they know you are safe.

  6. If you lose contact with your buddy, you may search for no more than one minute. If you cannot locate your buddy within one minute, you must safely surface. You may not continue the dive without your buddy.

  7. DPVs are not permitted during the hunt.

  8. Unsafe behavior or failure to follow event safety guidelines may result in immediate disqualification and removal from the event.

Hunt Rules (NEW)

  1. Teams must consist of exactly two divers. Both divers must remain together throughout the hunt.

  2. Animals will be placed no deeper than 33 feet.

  3. Only one animal may be retrieved by each team. Once your team has found an animal, you are finished searching.

  4. Do not intentionally move, hide, or interfere with an animal. Animals must remain in the locations where they were placed.

  5. If all 10 animals are not found during the hunt, the remaining prizes will be awarded by drawing from the participating teams that did not find an animal.

  6. Safety takes priority over the competition. Do not put yourself or your buddy at risk in an attempt to find an animal.

  7. Extreme Sports Scuba staff and event safety personnel have the final say on all safety and rule decisions.
