This post is going up a little later than normal but this day has been extremely off. Should I call out and tell Dan that it is in fact Wednesday just in case his day/week is off? He was grumbling last week that no one told him so I just really wanted to make sure that he knew that it was, in fact, Wednesday. Okay, 2 things covered, Dan knows it is Wednesday and this post is going up a bit late. Now what to cover… So classes started yesterday. We learned about a guy who proposed 850 word vocabulary only for International or Global English. Basically it is the amount of words needed to hold on a conversation between English as a first language and English as a second language speakers. Now how to tie that in to today’s post… I think I’ve used more than 850 different words or same words but with different meanings for this post… Maybe after I learn in my class how to write in Global English I’ll try to do a post for you just to illustrate. See aren’t you glad you read these posts on Wednesday to learn what I learned in school. Oh wait, you come here to meet divers… so today’s diver is Ed Brewer.
How did you get started diving?
I was a childhood fan of Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges. Between that and Jacques Cousteau, I had always been a fan.
How long have you been diving?
Since May of 1999
How many dives do you make in a typical year?
60-75. Depends on the number of dive trips Deb and Grady put together.
What other hobbies do you have?
Fossil collecting, boating, fishing, treasure hunting, photography
Where is your favorite place to dive?
In the ocean. Anywhere in the ocean.
What is your most comical dive experience?
Someone tied a water bottle to Grady’s BC. Grady put a leash. Pretty much any prank dive that involves Grady.
Deb and Jan Goldsworthy towed Shirley upside down and backwards back to the boat. (Check the 2015 calendar, June or July for the photo)
Caribbean reef crab Shirley found was dead. She grabbed it and carried it around in front of a dive master by the pinchers and shook it in front of him. He thought it was live so he freaked out. Told her once they were back up on the boat that she scared him.
What is your occupation?
CNC Machine Tool Programmer.
Words of wisdom/tips or tricks for fellow divers?
Always be safe but have fun. Just be cautious. Always have an eye on conservation. Take only memories and only leave bubbles.
