Extreme Diver Interview – Barbara McMurry

I am to the point again when I need to start begging for interviews. Deb and I set a goal of 52 interviews and so far I’ve been rolling but now I’m getting stuck. Today’s diver I held off on interviewing as well as posting for this day. I had her date in mind as long as I could hold out and I was lucky enough to be able to. Last year because of the way the month fell we were at Mermet Springs celebrating her birthday as well as Kennedy’s, but this year her birthday falls during Memorial Weekend… Meet Barb(ara) McMurry.  So before we start in with Barb’s interview, let me make a plea once more, please let me interview you!!! All these interviewee’s can testify it isn’t bad, I don’t take blood samples or Social Security numbers or Bank Account Info… haha! Just a good, fun interview!! Okay now on to today’s Interview, let me introduce to you, Barbara McMurry.

How did you get started diving?

Through my cousin Pam Eaves. They had posted on line that they went to Cozumel. I saw the pictures and said I always wanted to do that. I came down to the shop on Saturday and had a class on Monday.

How long have you been diving?

Almost 2 years.

How many dives do you make in a typical year?

Maybe 20. Not very many.

What other hobbies do you have?

My newest hobby is my granddaughter. Emilee. That’s about it.

Where is your favorite place to dive?

Cozumel.

What is your most comical dive experience?

There are many. I can’t hold my balance under water so at Roatán I let to much air out and floated to the bottom on my back. I hit the bottom and couldn’t get up. The preacher came over and helped me up.

What is your occupation?

Diagnose codes on Hospital charts.

Words of wisdom/tips or tricks for fellow divers?

Don’t let all your air out of your vest at one time.
