Hi ya friends. Not to be confused with Hi Yaaaaaay (you know the karate chop sound…. but really probably not).
I believe the word you were looking for is… Anyway….
So here we are in July. When did that happen? Oh, that’s right, it happened July 1st. Well, I have some fun pieces of history for you today. Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month and that the third Sunday in July is National Ice Cream Day? Yes, I’m back on all those national food holidays, but this one was signed in to effect by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Did you know Ice Cream is Nutritious?
It’s true. It might be a bit sugary and a little calorie laden, but otherwise it is healthy for you. The base ingredient is usually milk, which is loaded with vitamins and minerals. See, it can’t be all that bad… right?
One other piece of information
Charles E. Minches of St. Louis, Missouri invented the ice cream cone at the 1904 World’s Fair held in St. Louis. He filled a pastry cone with two scoops of ice cream and made the first ice cream cone. But there is some dispute about this obviously. Italo Marchiony of New York filed a patent for the ice cream cone months before the fair opened. He was selling lemon ice in his as early as 1896. So I guess we’ll never know the rest of the story, right?
So let’s move on to something fun… like a recipe for Ice Cream, right?
If you happened to be with us at the lake during Memorial Day or July Extreme Dive Club Meeting, you probably had this. If not, I urge you to run out right now, buy the stuff, and make it. It is life changing. I’m so glad my friend Amy La Due shared this recipe with me many moons ago and now… I can share it with you. Yes, it’s that good! And it’s July and Sunday is the third Sunday so that means… Celebrate National Ice Cream Day and National Ice Cream Month all in one swoop!
Knock-off Wendy’s Frosty!
Ingredients:
- 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 large or 2 small tubs of Cool Whip
- 1/2 gallon Chocolate milk
- Ice Cream Maker + All ingredients needed for said Ice cream maker.
In a bowl, mix the sweetened condensed milk with the cool whip. Pour into the ice cream maker. Add the half gallon of Chocolate milk. Turn on the ice cream maker and let it do its thing.
And when it is finished, you are left with this fantastic stuff. And best thing, after you put the rest in the freezer, it doesn’t get hard like some homemade ice creams. It still tastes just as good. Yum!
